Ara Marker

The Ara marker was used for competitions. We demonstrate that the Ara marker is neutral here and the marker status (Ara+ or Ara-) of each competitor in the competitions is given here.

Mutations Conferring Resistance to Rifampicin in Other Species

Some of the same mutations we discovered in our experimental isolates have been found in other studies on different bacterial species. Some of the comparisons are presented here.

Extra Simulation

We performed an additional simulation to investigate evolutionary rescue by single mutations that do not change growth rate with rifampicin concentration. We see that the predictions of such a simulation contrasts with our experimental findings. Of course the assumptions of this simulation are at odds with our data, so the disagreement is not surprising. The details can be found here.
